Road trips, music and inspirations

Back in 2009 (wow was it really that long ago?) myself and two friends flew to San Francisco picked up an RV and drove. It was three weeks of seeing some of the most beautiful places i had (have) ever seen, from the giant redwoods, to following the ghostly trail of Ansel Adams, Snake River, Yellowstone, Nevada and more. I have spoken many many times about the Grand Tetons, Wyoming and the effect that region had on me, it was during a night drive in the shadows of those glorious mountains that Tori Amos "A Sorta Fairytale" played and ultimately shaped my future.

I will never forget that quiet moment, staring at the empty, dark road, snow falling outside, my experiences around the Tetons had reignited my passion, "A sorta Fairytale" may have been a coincidence but it was that song that was playing, that song that triggered my thoughts, that song that ended up meaning this website came about and my career into photography is what it is today, and while that might sound crazy to some, that is how it all happened. My friends remember that moment went.

This month Tori has been promoting her new play in London and happened to be discussing the power of the road trip and how "A Sorta Fairytale" came about in somewhat similar circumstances!

I cannot help but wonder what will happen next in my travels, or in my life during and after, it's no coincidence that Jack Kerouac's "On the Road" has become a firm favourite book of mine in recent times and i am sure i will be re reading that on the upcoming American leg.... but first China in November and for now i will continue to play "A Sorta Fairytale", dream of those snow capped mountains and be thankful that i was in the right place at the right time to be inspired.
