A flurry of activity..... The Other Art Fair
You may have noticed (if you follow me on various social media platforms) a flurry of recent photos popping up all somewhat brightly coloured and square in nature. You may have also noticed the abstract architecture shots have somewhat slowed down, or rather stopped-this is no coincidence.
Last year I exhibited for the first time at The Other Art Fair and I am pleased to say I have been invited back this April to be hosted at Victoria House 7-10th April. I had various ideas for this year, there is for example a fancy 4x5 pinhole camera being built as I type this, which I was hoping to arrive before February which hasn't. I also want to do a small project in France but I need the winter months for that. Since the last Art Fair I have been constantly reviewing the images that I have been making, and deleted a fair few of them, why? Because they were close, but not exactly what I had in my head originally with the triple exposure 'Guggenheim' and 'Gherkin' being the closest. Over the last few months I've been dabbling, getting frustrated, annoying my girlfriend with my impatience and getting a wee bit fed up. Then I watched two movies:
Jean-Michel Basquiat "The radiant child" and
The Deepest Depths of the Burrow:
Basquait fuelled my already original idea/concept and made me think of ways I could go about it, including picking up the paint brushes again, something I haven't done for over 20 years since my art teacher told me "there was no point in pursuing art in any form as a job". The Deepest Depths of the Burrow, while about Graffiti Art just made something click in my head, I stopped watching that documentary and knew how to achieve or as close to what I had wanted ... and "bam" here we are.
So, I hope you will be able to join me at The Other Art Fair next month where I shall be displaying some of my new work for the first time.... hopefully, with a little extra twist too!!
